NextGen Submissions

Capital Repertory Theatre (theREP) is now accepting submissions for the NextGen Reading Event, for playwrights aged 19-25, for the Tenth Annual NEXT ACT! NEW PLAY SUMMIT.  

Deadline for NextGen submissions is end of day, Friday April 9th, 2021!

Please note that The Next Act! New Play Summit will be done virtually in June of 2021. 

 NEXT ACT!, now in its tenth year, is an expansion of theREP’s commitment to the development of new work. At the same time, the four-day summit is designed to complement the Upper Hudson Valley’s rich diverse populations. Next Act! New Play Summit 10 will be virtual and will take place in early June, 2021 (exact dates TBD). In addition to the NextGen Reading, NEXT ACT! Includes readings of several never-before produced full-length plays; the New Voices Eventwhich features readings of the five winning scripts from theREP’s local Young Playwright Contest (Click here for info on the Young Playwright Contest); and the popular First 15: Be a Literary Manager event. 

 

NEXTGEN Reading:

theREP is looking for scripts that use theatre to address injustices, inequities, and cultural collisions, providing a voice for the unheard on stage, in the workplace, the Capital Region and beyond. Scripts that engage art and social justice. 

 Accepting short (30minutes or lessplays only.  

(No Musicals.) 

Pieces written by and featuring BIPOC stories encouraged. 

Comedy and Drama welcome! 

ELIGIBILITY

Playwrights must be 19-25 years old at the time of submission. 

 Eligible plays can not have been previously produced, though previous readings are allowed. No more than 7 characters.  

 Plays previously submitted to Next Act will not be considered. 

 Agent and non-agent submissions accepted. 

 Submission Deadline: END OF DAY – Friday April 9, 2021
